Holistic Massage
Holistic Massage has at its heart a commitment to considering the client as a whole, not just focusing on the presenting problems or issues. A holistic practitioner takes into account a clients emotional and spiritual wellbeing as well as their physical body. For example if a client comes in with acute pain between their shoulder blades, massage work in that specific area will almost definitely have an immediate relieving affect, however without considering the source of the tension and wider issues affecting the client, the affects of the specific work will be short lived.
For the holistic practitioner, a wide range of massage techniques must be mastered, including gentle massage, stretches, relaxation work and very deep tissue techniques. Flexibility in applying this breadth of knowledge is paramount since their appropriateness must be determined by the clients needs at that particular time.
Many clients find that they feel empowered by this holistic approach, giving them ideas and tools to use themselves to address some of the sources of tension as well as knowing that when they come for a massage session it is them and how they are feeling that will direct the focus of the session.
